OUR PRODUCTS & MARKETS

Beach produces and sells hydrocarbon products from our Australia and New Zealand operations that are used to provide local and international energy security and as a feedstock to manufacturers of everyday products, including lubricants, plastics, fabrics, fertilisers and paints.

Beach strives to produce clean, affordable and reliable energy for the community.  Beach has set a target to reduce our scope 1 and 2 equity emissions intensity by 35% by 2030 and remains committed to our aspiration to reach net zero scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050.

Read more about our emissions target here.

Beach’s product mix includes:

  • Wholesale domestic gas supplied into Eastern Australia, Western Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Liquified Natural Gas to be supplied into global LNG markets.
  • Crude oil, primarily supplied to Australian refineries however occasionally supplied into international markets.
  • Condensate (including light & heavy naphtha) supplied to Australian refineries and international markets.
  • Liquified Petroleum Gas (including Propane, Butane and Automix) supplied to the Australian and NZ domestic markets and international markets.
  • Carbon dioxide supplied to local processors and distributors.

EAST AUSTRALIAN DOMESTIC GAS

Beach produces and processes natural gas for the Eastern Australia (EA) domestic market via our Cooper Basin, Otway and BassGas operations.

Beach supplies natural gas to large energy retailers, power generators and industrial users and our supply currently satisfies ~12% of annual EA domestic demand.

Gas is an important source of energy security due to reducing coal-fired power, intermittent renewable supply and electricity network instability.

Beach believes EA gas supply will continue to tighten and a stable policy framework is required to stimulate investment in new gas supply.

Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2 – under construction

WEST AUSTRALIAN GAS AUSTRALIA

Beach produces and processes natural gas for the Western Australia (WA) domestic market via our existing Beharra Springs and Xyris operations.

Waitsia Stage 2 is under development and is expected to start-up in 2024 and whilst it was underpinned by LNG exports, it will be a major source of domestic gas supply post 2028.

Beach supplies natural gas to large energy retailers, power generators and industrial users and our supply currently satisfies ~2% of annual WA domestic demand.

Gas is an important source of energy security due to reducing coal-fired power, intermittent renewable supply and electricity network instability.

Beach believes WA gas supply will continue to tighten and a stable policy framework is required to stimulate investment in new gas supply.

NEW ZEALAND DOMESTIC GAS

Beach produces and processes natural gas for the New Zealand (NZ) domestic market via our Kupe operations.

Beach supplies natural gas to a large energy retailer and power generators and our supply currently satisfies ~7% of annual NZ domestic demand.

Gas is an important source of energy security and accounts for ~18% of NZ’s overall energy mix.

Beach believes NZ gas supply will continue to tighten due to no new gas exploration or developments and major NZ gas fields in decline.

Kupe gas facility

GLOBAL LIQUIFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG)

Beach will be a new entrant in the global LNG market, with gas supplied from Waitsia Stage 2 and processed through the existing North-West Shelf LNG facility.

Beach has executed an LNG SPA with bp to deliver up to 3.75 MT of LNG between 2023 to 2028.

Geopolitical/energy security concerns highlight the importance of LNG and the limited investment in new supply is accentuating imbalances.

There is an increasing LNG demand outlook to support the global energy transition.

Crude oil

Beach produces and processes crude oil via our Cooper Basin and Port Bonython operations.

Beach produces a light sweet grade of crude oil that is highly sought after by Australian and Asian refineries.

Cooper Basin crude is rich in middle distillates, including Kerosene/Jet Fuel, Diesel, Heating Oil, Industrial Gasoil, Marine Gasoil and Lubricating Oil.

Comparable grades include Saharan Blend, Cossack, Kutubu and Kimanis.

Light sweet crude remains an important source of energy for global transportation and feedstock that is used to make a wide variety of products.

Otway Gas Plant

Condensate

Beach produces and processes condensate via our Kupe, Otway, BassGas, Cooper Basin and Port Bonython operations.

Condensate from Kupe is exported from NZ to Australian and Asian refineries.

Condensate from Otway and BassGas is supplied into Australian refineries via road-tanker.

Condensate from Cooper Basin is processed in Port Bonython into light and heavy naphtha where it is exported to Australian and Asian refineries.

Condensate is used to make a wide variety of products including petrol, jet fuel, diesel, heating fuels, detergents, adhesives, carpets, cosmetics, fertilisers, paints, rubber, fabrics, and plastics.

LPG

Beach produces and processes LPG via our Kupe, Otway, BassGas, Cooper Basin and Port Bonython operations.

LPG from Kupe is supplied into the NZ market via road-tanker and currently satisfies ~27% of annual NZ LPG demand.

LPG from Otway and BassGas is supplied into East Coast LPG markets via road-tanker.

LPG from Cooper Basin and Port Bonython is supplied into Southern Australian LPG markets via road-tanker and is also exported to Asian markets.

LPG is used as a propellant and refrigerant, fuel for space/water heating, cooking, and transportation/logistics and for other agricultural, manufacturing and industrial purposes.
